Luisa Bieri is a theater artist, activist and educator who works to create cross-cultural understanding through art and dialogue. Por la Avenida is a neighborhood initiative that Luisa created this year at Creative Alliance, a multi-purpose art center in Baltimore, where new and older generations of immigrants, refugees and long-standing, working-class residents of Highlandtown make and perform art together. Through an Open Society Institute Fellowship and in collaboration with Theater Action Group, she is directing Belongings, a play based on the stories of these neighbors.
