Run of the Mill Theatre The Company that's anything but!
A Baltimore-based theater company dedicated to providing innovative programming of new and under-produced plays...creating an environment for professional and aspiring artists to collaborate, and fostering cultural diversity. more

So OK, you are an undergraduate or graduate student and you wonder what your performance degree will afford you. Or that BA, BFA or MFA has been in your clutches for some time now moist and crinkled by the persistent restlessness of your dream of “a life in the theatre.” You want to hold onto your identity as an “artist” as long as you can. What does the current market of performing arts provide for someone like you? Regional theatre, commercial theatre, Broadway? Uhhg! The market seems so stiflingly narrow and monolithic which dangles a measure of success only a small percentage of artists modestly attain. Then there is the arduous and sometimes naïve challenge of beginning your own performance company. While one could strongly argue that the world does not need another fledging theatre company with only one paid staff, we would argue actually that it does. With an eye towards emerging models that diversify this “market,” we define "artistic entrepreneurs" as folks who are increasingly multi-disciplinary, experimenting with organizational structure, and engaged civically through their art. Most importantly, artistic entrepreneurs see themselves as cultural resources to a particular community. We believe that emerging artists need to integrate all of these values into their work in order for American theatre and performance to be relevant into the 21st century (see forthcoming related essays and articles).
