Ouroboros
What's in a symbol?

Ouroboros What's in a symbol? When theatre intentionally re-integrates education, civic engagement, and community-building into its main purposes, it begins to look like the theatre of our ancient forebearers. By helping to expand and evolve theatre in the 21st century with these purposes in mind, CPP highlights practitioners who are re-volving theatre practices back to these social roots.

Theatre is a way of knowing. The art is a psycho-social-physical language that gives voice to stories viscerally, kinetically, visually and spiritually; and consequently, it enables individuals to re-store greater cultural health and wholeness to our communities. Across lines of difference, community performance re-connects us to our shared humanity through participation and dialogue.

So then, the symbol of the Ourorobos is a visual representation of these actions: re-turn, re-spond, re-integrate, re-volve, re-store, re-connect. Its ancient meanings (rooted in alchemy arts) included the values of wholeness, transformation, integration, balance, and self-sufficiency. The Ouroboros quite literally and figuratively embodies the key values and principles of CP. The “world snake” or Ouroboros is a symbol that has expressed itself somewhat universally in various cultures from all over the world

Others Images of Ouroboros. We collect images and objects bearing the symbol. The tail must be directed closely at the mouth. Do you know of any?
